Kuala Lumpur is one of those popular hubs in South-East Asia where several airlines (especially budget ones) layover. KL is also growing into a fast-paced, expat-attracting, hustling city, much like its next door neighbour Singapore! We have had several layovers in KL, and during one such layover we decided to spend a night and it was great!
P.S we stayed at the St. Regis KL, it was brand new then and absolutely lovely. We were upgraded to a suite and had a regal experience!
Petronas Petronas Petronas!
KL resonates with the Petronas towers. And sure enough they are a beauty. You can start the day by hiking the viewing deck to get some day time views of the tower and the beautiful city below. A paid ticket will get you to the Skybridge that connects the two towers. Fun fact: the bridge is “hanging” – it is not attached to the main structure, but is instead designed to slide in and out of the towers to prevent it from breaking. For someone who is motion sick (Me! Me! Me!) it was dreadful to cross, but if you are a brave one – cross away. 🙂
Lunch at Petaling Street
The Chinatown of KL is also quite vibrant. Shop here for “inspired” (read: fake) sports jerseys and electronics at a great bargain! While in Chinatown, visit the Guan Di temple and enjoy some great hawker food at Petaling street. Be sure to try the amazing Laksa. P.S. if you are vegetarian, try the Laksa at Simple Life Vegetarian restaurant. You will not be disappointed!
The famous Batu Caves
After lunch, head to Batu caves to get a sight of the magnificent Lord Murugan standing tall and burn those lunch calories climbing the numerous stairs leading to the caves!
Sip and Relax
To end your day, head to Sky Bar on the 33rd floor of Traders Hotel for an awe-inspiring view of the Petronas whilst sipping your favourite cocktail!
